Consonant Clusters
German has unusual consonant clusters: pf (Pferd — both sounds pronounced), kn (Knie — both sounds pronounced, unlike English), sp/st at word start = /ʃp, ʃt/ (spielen, stehen — with 'sh'). The combination 'sch' always = /ʃ/.
